The third film in the Avatar series, James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, is expected to become the highest opening box office of the year. Experts predict a worldwide first weekend of between $340 million and $380 million. If the film performances are like these forecasts, the releases of 2025 will be ranked in order of this film, which, besides, closes a very busy holiday season of movies.
Domestic and International Expectations
The film is anticipated to be released with a weekend of over $100 million in the United States where most of the revenues are expected to come from premium large format (PLF) screenings. Similarly, international markets are very optimistic and possibly, they will be the main contributors to the film’s overall debut total.
In spite of these robust forecasts, Fire and Ash is expected to have a lesser opening than the sequel of Avatar The Way of Water that had a record-breaking global debut in 2022. However, it is still expected that Fire and Ash will have a better first run than the original Avatar and its sequels.

The Avatar franchise is characterized by its huge production costs – the new movie, as it is said, cost upwards of $400 million to make. Because of this money game, the box office revenues need to be very strong not only to pay off the production and marketing expenses but also to give the green light to the upcoming sequels in the franchise.
Streaming and Future Availability
Fire and Ash is only released in theatres at the moment. People will be able to stream it only in late 2026 and most probably it will be on Disney+ as the movie is released by Disney’s 20th Century Studios, but no one knows the exact date yet.
