Filmmakers using the Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF camera now have a significant upgrade option with the new 16TB Media Module. This doubles the storage capacity of the previous 8TB module, meeting the growing demand for longer recording times in high-resolution projects.
Seamless Integration and Performance
The 16TB module uses M.2 SSD storage that installs directly into the camera’s media bay. It supports up to 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files and H.264 proxy files, with data rates reaching 1,432 MB/s at 24 fps. This ensures smooth recording at the highest resolutions and frame rates. The module is hot-swappable when used with the optional Blackmagic Media Dock, allowing quick media transfers during shoots.
Workflow Enhancement with Cloud Integration
More than just storage, the Media Module acts like a “Cloud Store Mini built into your camera.” Users can access files over high-speed 10G Ethernet connections. The module can be removed and loaded into a Blackmagic Media Dock for transferring media to networks or Blackmagic Cloud, making collaborative workflows easier.
Pricing and Availability
The Blackmagic Design 16TB Media Module is priced at $2,965, compared to the 8TB version at $1,865. Pre-orders are open worldwide, though a confirmed release date has not been announced.
This upgrade marks a significant step for high-end digital cinema, offering filmmakers improved storage capacity and smoother workflows to handle the demands of modern productions.
