Andrew Garfield has officially boarded Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film Artificial, produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Described as a comedic drama rooted in the world of artificial intelligence, the film will also feature Yura Borisov, known for his breakout role in Anora and a recent Oscar nomination.
The screenplay comes from Simon Rich, known for An American Pickle, who also serves as producer. The production team includes David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films, as well as Jennifer Fox.
Reuniting Past Collaborators
Artificial marks another collaboration between Garfield, Guadagnino, and Amazon MGM Studios. The trio previously worked together on After the Hunt, a drama starring Julia Roberts, Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri. That film is slated for a theatrical release on October 10.
While not officially confirmed, early reports hinted that Monica Barbaro was also being considered for a lead role in Artificial. The film is believed to draw inspiration from real-world events involving AI company OpenAI—specifically the chaotic few days in 2023 when CEO Sam Altman was abruptly fired and then rehired.
A Packed Schedule for Garfield
Garfield’s involvement in Artificial comes during a particularly active phase in his career. Aside from After the Hunt, he is also working on The Magic Faraway Tree, a family film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s classic series. That project features a strong ensemble cast including Claire Foy, Jessica Gunning, and Nicola Coughlan, and is being produced by Studiocanal.
Additionally, Garfield has been cast in Paul Greengrass’ historical thriller The Rage, set during the Peasants’ Revolt in 14th-century England. The film is backed by Focus Features.
An Award-Winning Career
